How to verify a reported Toast rate change on your own account

This alert remains published for 60 calendar days from September 11, 2026. Because Toast pricing can be account-specific, your own written notice and monthly statement are the controlling documents.

  • Compare the processing rate and per-transaction charge with the previous month.
  • Separate card-present, card-not-present, software, hardware and other account fees.
  • Calculate the effective rate by dividing total processing costs by total card volume.
  • Ask for a written explanation of every new or changed line item.

What the new UPI merchant fee means

Reuters reports that India’s UPI network will introduce a 0.4% merchant discount rate on eligible person-to-merchant payments above ₹2,000 beginning October 15, 2026. Small merchants and person-to-person payments are exempt.

Retail and brokerage groups have objected, warning that the cost could pressure margins or encourage some merchants to prefer cash. This remains an India-specific development and does not change U.S. Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover pricing.

Card-brand fee alert

Selected October 2026 card-brand fees to verify

This alert remains published for 60 calendar days from October 5, 2026. Fiserv’s merchant update identifies the following new or updated network fees; applicability depends on transaction type, merchant category, card program, region and processor.

  • Visa in Latin America and the Caribbean: a $0.0005 Network Defense Fee per authorization, plus updated high-integrity-risk card-not-present fees for listed merchant categories.
  • Mastercard: 0.10% plus $0.02 per item for registered specialty-merchant transactions, and a 0.05% crypto-card transaction fee in Latin America and the Caribbean.
